A Basic Overview of the LASIK Procedure

Last updated 6 years ago

Is your vision preventing you from enjoying your life as much as you could?  Then contact Clear Advantage about LASIK procedures. Find out what you can expect from LASIK surgery by reviewing the information below:

  • Preparing for LASIK

You will need to schedule an evaluation with our doctors to measure your corneal thickness, refraction, corneal mapping, air pressure, and pupil size.  Our doctor will also evaluate your medical history to make sure you’re an ideal candidate for LASIK eye surgery.  Our doctor will discuss what you can expect during the procedure.   You will be required to be out of contact lenses prior to your evaluation and surgery.

  • LASIK Procedures

After our ophthalmologist preps you for the LASIK eye surgery, he will place numbing drops into your eyes.  A special instrument, called a speculum will help keep your eyes open.  Because your eyes are numb, you won’t feel any pain.   We will then use an excimer laser or microkeratome to create a thin hinged flap in the cornea.  This tissue will be moved aside so the laser can reshape the cornea tissue.   The surgeon will lay the tissue back down so that it can heal naturally. He will then repeat this procedure on the second eye.   The entire procedure only takes about 10 – 15 minutes.

  • Recovering from LASIK

Your vision may be somewhat blurry for the first few hours following LASIK eye surgery, but healing generally occurs quickly. Most patients can drive to our office for their follow up appointment the day after surgery, and can return to work and most normal activities.    You will use medicated eye drops and lubricating drops for the first week to month after your procedure,
