Before scheduling your evaluation, it is important that you do not wear soft contact lenses for 5 days, toric lenses for 2 weeks or hard contact lenses for 8 weeks prior to the diagnostic evaluation AND prior to surgery. For example, if you have an evaluation but don’t want to schedule surgery for a few months, you are safe to put your contacts back in, as long as they are removed again before surgery for the appropriate amount of time indicated. If you are a toric or hard lens wearer, we could set up a 20 minute “mini” evaluation to ensure you are a likely candidate for LASIK without the initial commitment to being out of your lenses. Call our office for details.
During your 45 minute evaluation:
- Evaluations are offered Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and most Fridays between 8:00am and 5:00pm (4:00pm would be the last appointment of the day).
- We will be taking a number of photos of your eyes. These photos enable us to measure the thickness and curvature of your eye. Your eyes will be examined both before and after dilation. It will be completely safe to drive after the evaluation, however your eyes will be sensitive to bright light so we recommend that you bring sunglasses or clip-ons for your glasses with you (some will be provided if you don’t have any). Small text, such as a phone book or computer screen, may also appear blurry for the first 4-5 hours after your have completed your evaluation.
- At the end of the evaluation, our ophthalmologist and/or optometrist will discuss the results of the evaluation with you and recommend the type of procedure that will offer you the best visual results.
